| | | | FINISHING SCHOOL CAMP | | | | | | | by
posted 04/21/2012
It's time to sign up for the second annual Finishing School camp! Last year was a huge success and we expect this year to be even better!
The Finishing School
Certain players always seem to be in a position to score, and goalies seem to never stop their shots. These players don't possess an innate ability to always be in the right place at the right time, nor do they know what the goalie is thinking. These traits are acquired through repetition, hard work, and PRACTICE. Unfortunately, these skills are not always taught to every lacrosse player. A 7 goal, 4 assist season is great, but what if it could have been a 22 goal, 15 assist year?
As a lacrosse player, nothing is better than catching a ball on the crease with nothing in between you and the goalie. What happens next? At the Finishing School, we will teach exactly how, and where, to shoot the ball to dramatically increase the amount of times you score.
What to expect:
- A marked increase in offensive production (goals and assists)
- Increased shot speed and accuracy
- Better knowledge of how to finish a dodge with a goal
- Increased ability to find yourself and your teammates open in scoring situations
- Top notch coaching from collegiate players who know how to score
- Billy Blakely: current player at Greensboro College, led GC in points the past two years, notched 11 points in one game, has eclipsed over 100 points in his collegiate career, Queen City Top 50 All-Star from Charlotte's Hopewell High School (08)
- Randall Brooks: former GC starter, notched record 7 assists in single game at GC, two-time 1st team all-state midfielder from Southeast Guilford (06)
- Brian Bishop: current GC assistant coach, former GC Captain (09), played in NCAA Final Four with Roanoke College (05), all-state as a senior at Northwest Guilford in 2004
The Finishing School will be a four part series of two-hour, hands on sessions. We will teach your player how to increase his ability to score, and to increase the amount of times he finds his teammates in a position to score. Our sessions will be focused on five specific areas:
1. Shooting with time and room
2. Shooting on the run
3. Finishing on the crease
4. Scoring off of a successful dodge
5. Lacrosse IQ and field vision
If it sounds like your TYLA player would benefit from the Finishing School, we are looking for 20 students, ages 10-14, to participate in our second annual class. This year our registration fee is $175 per player. Each student will receive a Finishing School shooting shirt, will have their shot speed clocked the first and last day, and will have a chance to win a new lacrosse head. Not to mention our student favorite session of shooting at watermelons and others juicy fruits! School will be in session Monday, June 18th - 21st, from 7-9PM at Jesse Wharton.
Please contact Brian Bishop at
or at 336-202-5933 to reserve a place on the Finishing School roster. The sign-up deadline is June 9th, or until we reach 20 students..
